TURKEY TUMBLER MEET REFLECTION

It was a very busy weekend full of gymnastics!  It was so much fun to watch these girls compete, rally around each other, and learn how to deal with the pressures of being on stage in front of a judge.  What a fantastic opportunity to get judge feedback in the form of scores and handwritten notes.  Many times it is the same things the coaches have been telling the girls, but hearing it from the "authority"  is like groundbreaking for them!!  Whatever it takes!!  I am very grateful for all the parent support and enthusiasm this weekend.  We have such a nice community...I am always proud to be a part of our club!  One of the judges pointed out how nice our teams are with one another.  They are sweet teammates!

Whether your gymnast is new to the sport, new to our club, new to a level or experienced at a level...we have a lot to celebrate at this early start to the season.  We are going to continue to build on these successes and I know we will see amazing progress this season.  This is going to be fun!

One specific thing the judges commented to us about that could be remedied quickly for next meet is this...
hair flopping around is very distracting to the judges.  I know it feels nit picky but I am just passing this along straight from the judges.  When long ponytails or even long braids are flipping around, they have difficulty judging the routine with accuracy.  I am going to strongly suggest a tight bun for their hair if the ponytail is longer than where a shirt collar would be.  If the ponytail is shorter and doesn't hang past where a collar would be, then it is perfectly fine.  I know of gyms that dictate the way the hair is done.  I hate to do that but I do know the judges specifically mentioned it to me so I am going to pass that on to you.  Very tight french braids that are not flopping around will do just fine too!  Let's try for tight french braid or braids or a ponytail with a bun and scrunchie.  If we need to, we can always meet for a pre-meet hair party!!  Some of you bun experts could offer your services!  I know it is not easy.  Hair before a meet gives me severe anxiety!
We will talk to the girls tomorrow at practice about this too to help support you at home in dealing with this!

Notes from our Parent Meeting on 11-8-14

Hello All!
I wanted to send these notes out to you all from the meeting on Saturday.  I know schedules are busy and meetings can be challenging.  I just decided to pretty much type up everything we went over so you could have it at your fingertips.  Hopefully it all makes sense to you.  Let me know if not!

One highlight that I wanted to point out…there is going to be a VERY small crew the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I wanted to make practice available for those of you that were sticking around but I certainly understand family plans.  Since it will be a small crew, we are just going to practice 10-12 that day.  Enough time to shake it out and stretch a bit.  Keeping them moving!

I have details about the Turkey Tumbler, meet schedule, meet attire, etc. in the notes.

We do need a level 2 and level 4 parent volunteer to head up the goody bags.
You will not be responsible for doing the bags for every week just organize, collecting money or items, etc.
Level 4 parents..I have had volunteers to help with the bags so maybe you guys could just go in pairs to take a meet at a time if that would make it easier.  I am going to try and get a phone/email tree together for the levels.  This may help!  If you would like to organize for levels 2 or 4 please let me know and I will get you contact information.

We will NOT worry about goody bags for the Turkey Tumbler on the 22nd!
