TURKEY TUMBLER MEET REFLECTION

It was a very busy weekend full of gymnastics!  It was so much fun to watch these girls compete, rally around each other, and learn how to deal with the pressures of being on stage in front of a judge.  What a fantastic opportunity to get judge feedback in the form of scores and handwritten notes.  Many times it is the same things the coaches have been telling the girls, but hearing it from the "authority"  is like groundbreaking for them!!  Whatever it takes!!  I am very grateful for all the parent support and enthusiasm this weekend.  We have such a nice community...I am always proud to be a part of our club!  One of the judges pointed out how nice our teams are with one another.  They are sweet teammates!

Whether your gymnast is new to the sport, new to our club, new to a level or experienced at a level...we have a lot to celebrate at this early start to the season.  We are going to continue to build on these successes and I know we will see amazing progress this season.  This is going to be fun!

One specific thing the judges commented to us about that could be remedied quickly for next meet is this...
hair flopping around is very distracting to the judges.  I know it feels nit picky but I am just passing this along straight from the judges.  When long ponytails or even long braids are flipping around, they have difficulty judging the routine with accuracy.  I am going to strongly suggest a tight bun for their hair if the ponytail is longer than where a shirt collar would be.  If the ponytail is shorter and doesn't hang past where a collar would be, then it is perfectly fine.  I know of gyms that dictate the way the hair is done.  I hate to do that but I do know the judges specifically mentioned it to me so I am going to pass that on to you.  Very tight french braids that are not flopping around will do just fine too!  Let's try for tight french braid or braids or a ponytail with a bun and scrunchie.  If we need to, we can always meet for a pre-meet hair party!!  Some of you bun experts could offer your services!  I know it is not easy.  Hair before a meet gives me severe anxiety!
We will talk to the girls tomorrow at practice about this too to help support you at home in dealing with this!

COWTOWN CLASSIC

The COWTOWN CLASSIC SCHEDULE IS OUT.

Notes from our Parent Meeting on 11-8-14

Hello All!
I wanted to send these notes out to you all from the meeting on Saturday.  I know schedules are busy and meetings can be challenging.  I just decided to pretty much type up everything we went over so you could have it at your fingertips.  Hopefully it all makes sense to you.  Let me know if not!

One highlight that I wanted to point out…there is going to be a VERY small crew the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  I wanted to make practice available for those of you that were sticking around but I certainly understand family plans.  Since it will be a small crew, we are just going to practice 10-12 that day.  Enough time to shake it out and stretch a bit.  Keeping them moving!

I have details about the Turkey Tumbler, meet schedule, meet attire, etc. in the notes.

We do need a level 2 and level 4 parent volunteer to head up the goody bags.
You will not be responsible for doing the bags for every week just organize, collecting money or items, etc.
Level 4 parents..I have had volunteers to help with the bags so maybe you guys could just go in pairs to take a meet at a time if that would make it easier.  I am going to try and get a phone/email tree together for the levels.  This may help!  If you would like to organize for levels 2 or 4 please let me know and I will get you contact information.

We will NOT worry about goody bags for the Turkey Tumbler on the 22nd!

We don't have tons to share but just want everyone to feel ready for the upcoming season.  Please email me any questions you may have that you would like addressed.  I will try to weave those answers into our agenda in an effort to be respectful of everyone's time.

4.  Please make sure your $25 has been paid to the Booster Club for the Turkey Tumbler on November 22nd.  This is our home opener and we will have judges to score our gymnasts.  It will be some nice feedback before the season officially begins.

5.  A CHANGE…Coach Nate sent out some closing dates for the upcoming holiday season.  He originally stated that the gym would be closed the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  We will still be having practice for the girls team our normal time.  So, that would be Saturday, November 29th.  Normal Practice for the Girls Team.

6.  November Gymnasts of the Month-(wow, October went so fast we didn't get any gymnasts highlighted!) We will double our November gymnasts of the month to get as many girls highlighted before our season begins.  I will email those parents to get your permission to highlight your gymnast!

PARADE IS THIS SATURDAY!

Just reminding everyone that we will be parading this Saturday!  Check Coach Nate's email for the details of where to park and meet.  We invite all parents to walk with us!  We will need to get these gymnasts organized into waves so they can do their skills.  Any level of participation is absolutely fine with us coaches.  If the girls want to tumble, we will support them any way we can.  It is also perfectly fine for them to walk, and wave too.  I am sure it will be chilly in the morning so have them dress them in layers that they can remove as they warm up.  Please have them wear any of their Elite T-Shirts.  The new shirts preferably but really anything with Elite on it will work!  Maybe a leo underneath their t-shirt so they will not have to worry if shirts come untucked.

We will not have practice on Saturday due to the parade.

If you choose to watch your gymnast in the parade rather than walk, we will meet at Park Street intermediate when we finish our parade route.  Feel free to text me if you can't find us!

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up. I will email a reminder to you next week. I hope you all plan on participating in the zumbathon. It will be a great time!!

If you have any questions or need more tickets, please let me know.

One last thing. We are still in need of 1 or 2 raffle prizes. If you or anyone you know can donate something, please contact me. We have 2 in the $30 range, so a couple more would be awesome! If you need a letterhead or a donation form, let me know.

OUR SPACE

In an effort to keep everyone informed and to keep emailing to a minimum, we have decided to create a space you can access at any time to give you details.  We will be doing calendar updates here and special announcements as well as trying to highlight our gymnasts!  We have such a great community feel and we want to encourage that by allowing all of you to get to know our athletes.  This blog will also be a place our booster club can make announcements as well.  Our emailing will now just highlight when a new post has been made.

As we start competing, this will be a great way to "in-house" celebrate our successes.  As with everything, we will be developing this and finding new ways to use this great resource to keep us all connected and help our amazing gymnasts feel supported through their journey!
